Family Trip: Wyoming

Yes!!!!! Road Trip!! Wyoming was so fun!!!!!! We traveled from our home in California through Nevada, Oregon, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, and Utah! We were gonna go through Las Vegas, but when my dad checked the temperature it was supposed to be like 110 so we were like, “Pass!” Ha ha! The night before we left was my brother Pete’s first birthday. My grandma gave us some suggestions on where to go and we circled it on a map. When we went through Nevada we sang the song Havana, but instead of “Havana” we sang, “Nevada Ooh Na Na!” It was so fun but the view was not! In Nevada we only saw like 6 towns and 3 cool hill and canyon thingies then after that its just dirt, dirt, dirt!!! Lake Tahoe was the coolest, and the prettiest views, other than Wyoming, this place had really nice beaches, and beach walk-on hotels!!! Our little RV my parents rented was pretty nice although where the kids had to sleep wasn’t very nice! It was on a really high perch above the driver seat and even my brother Jack fell out of it in the middle of the night! My brother Pete slept in between my parents and he kept climbing into the sink in the middle of the night! In Idaho we met some of our friends, one used to be my piano teacher when I was really little, and they just happened to be a way point on our trip! We parked in their driveway and slept in our RV. Then the moment we had been waiting for: Yellowstone National Park! Here is some of the stuff we did:

  1. We started our trip in North Lake Tahoe. We stayed at a campground and Jack ate chicken nuggets at a restaurant. My mom just chased around Pete outside and even though we wanted to play we were all so tired we just wanted to find a campground.

2. We drove around to lots of campgrounds before we found one with vacancy, and there had been so much grizzly bear activity lately we didn’t even get out of the RV. We left as soon as we woke up and went fishing at Rainbow Campground in Hebgen Lake. We saw giant swans and lots of deer.

3. We went to the Grizzly and Wolf Discovery Center in West Yellowstone. We saw a Grizzly bear and wolves up close. This was a spot we circled on our map!

4. We hiked up a waterfall at Lewis Lake. Well.. my dad did. Us kids were in trouble so we had to stay in the RV. It’s hard not to bicker with your brothers when you’re cooped up in a small RV. When we finally stopped we took off racing up the trail to the waterfall and that was it for us! That’s how we got in trouble! Yellowstone can be dangerous and you have to be very careful at all times!!!!!

5. We saw bison. Lots of bison. We saw some in Yellowstone and lots more in Grand Teton National Park.

6. We saw Old Faithful and walked around the discovery center at Old Faithful. That was so cool.

7. We saw lots of hot springs and pools. We didn’t walk on the boardwalks but we just saw them from the road. Too dangerous for so many kids.

8. We hung out at a campground at Fishing bridge where we saw elk walk right through our camp. I made some tools out of sticks and my brother and I dug in the dirt. Pete busted his eyebrow open. It was too windy to take our fishing trip.

9. We saw the Grand Tetons at sunset which was so beautiful. We were driving on our way to Jackson Hole. Star Valley was also really pretty.

10. We stayed at a hotel in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. The next morning we went to Snow King and there was this amusement park thing that had all these cool mazes and stuff so we could pay them if we bought tickets. So we did! Then there was this roller coaster that we went on and my dad lost his hat! It will never be found again from the speed of that roller coaster! We had ice cream and went on a zip line called the flying squirrel. We went on a ski lift and my mom was able to take Pete on the ski lift in his baby harness. She said that would never happen in California. There was also some celebrities that we got to see there, people were trying to get pictures of them, they go by the names of the “Cardashians”. I don’t know who they are and my mom says that’s a good thing! Anyway, that’s all for Jackson Hole. It was our favorite stop on our road trip.

13. From Wyoming we drove to Utah and stayed the night at a KOA on Antelope Island in Salt Lake City. It was cool to see all the white salt around the lake.

12. From Salt Lake City we drove across Nevada to South Lake Tahoe. We stayed at a hotel that had a door that went right out to the beach. We spent lots of time on the beach and in the lake. We collected rocks and brought them home to show my grandma!

Finally, from Lake Tahoe we drove home. Then we slept in our own beds and it felt so good! My parents said they are not going to rent another RV like that in the future because our water tank didn’t work and there were other troubles too, but we do want to take another road trip again! Soon! That’s the END!
